What makes a mountain deck last.

It starts at the footings

Tall posts on a slope carry a lot of weight on a small patch of ground. When a footing sinks or water undercuts it, everything above goes out of level. Footings are the first thing to check on an older deck.

Where the deck meets the house

The board that ties a deck to the house needs solid fastening and proper flashing. Without flashing, water runs behind it and rots both the deck and the wall.

Shade keeps wood wet

A deck under trees dries slowly, grows mildew and gets slick. Regular cleaning and a stain that sheds water matter more here than they do on a sunny suburban lot.

Common questions

Can you build a deck on a steep lot?

Yes. Sloped lots are the norm up here. Tall posts, stairs and landings come with the territory.

Should I repair my deck or replace it?

If the framing and footings are sound, new boards and rails can give a deck many more years. If the structure is soft, replacement is the safer money. We’ll check and tell you which you have.

Do you stain decks as well as build them?

Yes. Staining is one of our main services, including the washing and prep that make the finish last.
